![]() ![]() The story has some cut-scenes, text-based unvoiced dialogue and is punctuated by slightly scripted story missions. The Campaign Mode involves "The Restoration Campaign" which follows a narrative involving a lone 'Mechwarrior forced into a mercenary life, but then dragged into interstellar politics and family feuds. It also has a 'Mech bay feature, which allows you to experiment and tinker with 'Mech designs. Skirmish is a one-off battle, which can be played multiplayer, or against AI enemies. ![]() When you start the game, you are given the choice between Campaign or Skirmish modes, and since the 1.3 update, a Career mode. The themes of BATTLETECH are politics, treachery and loyalty, power, lost technology, scrounging for survival and the romance of feudal knights and royalty. Military power is now in the form of the most advanced weapons platforms of two hundred years ago - The Battlemech - a walking, running, and sometimes jumping tank filled with high energy weapons and advanced systems - many of which are now failing with spare parts in constant short supply. War has been raging for hundreds of years and people's ability to manufacture even basic electronics has declined as factories are systematically blown up, scientists and engineers killed or kidnapped and leaders assassinated. Mankind has colonised thousands of planets around Earth, but previously centralised political control from Earth (initially the Terran Hegemony, then The Star League) has failed and groups of planets are now ruled by great and minor Houses, each dominated by a few powerful families and lineages, all vying for power and resources. This guide assumes that you have completed the tutorial and have a basic grasp of the UI, conducting battles, and weapons available, and are starting to explore some of the depth of the skill system, 'Mech building, lance composition and tactical nuances that exist within the game - either to find ways to improve your game - or to simply explore different tricks and strategies for fun and (virtual) profit (in C-Bills)! It is a thoughtful tactical turn-based mission-based game that allows quick access, but takes time to master and offers scope for experimentation on different levels. Battletech has a deep and long history and has a large base of fans, myself included, that love the lore and are desperate to like everything ever made about the Battletech Universe.īATTLETECH is a recent (2018) adaption of the game. The franchise started as a tabletop wargame in the 1980s and has since spawned numerous books, games, role-playing systems and other things. It did everything the 6 does, but better mostly thanks to its Double Heat Sinks, which are basically nonexistent these days.Welcome to Battletech - a game about giant robots at war in the 31st century. The Black Knight 6B was the harder-hitting, cooler-running Star League ancestor to the standard BL-6-KNT we have today. It's not the most heavily armored brawler, but it tends to give at least as good as it gets, especially with any Energy-based weapons. The 6R Warhammer is a legendary 'Mech that's often found in the thick of combat, hurling PPC bolts at its foes. While it excels at no specific roles, the Dragon 1N is passable at many. Originally designed to replace the Shadow Hawk, the Dragon 1N is a versatile, high speed Heavy 'Mech that trades firepower for speed and heat efficiency. Its heat management still poses a huge problem, though, so its pilots have to stay very wary of overheating. The Archer's ARC-2S variant trades some of its long-range punch to become even deadlier when it gets up close, mounting SRMs to follow up what its LRMs have battered. The Archer ARC-2R is a fire support 'Mech that is intended to rarely see the front lines, but with enough firepower to punish anyone who tries to sneak up on it.

This shredder produces larger shreds than some other micro-cut models we tested-most notably, the Fellowes Powershred 8MC5 8-Sheet Micro-Cut Paper Shredder (which unfortunately had temperature and jamming problems). We measured the level of noise during shredding using the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s sound level meter app.We noted how easy or difficult it was to empty the wastebasket, and how many pages the bin could hold before needing to be emptied. We didn’t test with paper clips in this round because in previous tests we found that they tended to break the machines. We tested whether the shredder could destroy staples, credit cards, and CDs (if the shredder maker advertised that it could). We timed the shredder’s run time and cooldown time. ![]() Stick to the maximum page capacity recommended by the manufacturer, or fewer, to avoid overworking your shredder and potentially shortening its life.) ![]() We purposely inserted more pages than the maximum load to see when the shredder would jam and how easily we could clear jams.We put batches of letter-size paper through (based on the shredder’s recommended maximum load) in succession to see if the shredder would jam or overheat under normal operating conditions.Ability to shred stapled documents, paper-clipped documents, CDs, and credit cards: Handling stapled documents and plastic credit cards is a must for any shredder. ![]() The shorter, the better, if you want to get back to your shredding job as soon as possible. Cooldown time: This refers to how long your shredder’s timeout needs to be after you exceed the run time.In our testing, most of the shredders’ bins got full within 10 to 15 minutes of nonstop shredding, rendering claims of ultra-high run times moot. Less-expensive shredders have run times of under five minutes, while the best home and small-office models have run times rated at 10 minutes or more. Run time: The higher the shredder’s run time, the more you can continuously shred before the unit needs to take a break and cool down. Most of the micro-cut shredders in our target price range can handle six to 12 sheets at a time. Page capacity: Having a shredder with a higher page capacity means you can shred more paper at once, including several folded sheets.More-expensive shredders are designed for offices where they’ll shred stacks of documents throughout the day they’re overkill for a typical one- or two-person home office. Price: We look for paper shredders from major manufacturers that retail for less than $200, with a strong preference for those priced closer to or lower than $100. ![]() The tone was Swiss chalet, the expansion modest. ![]() Blake’s goal was not just to make money, but to establish a fine-skiing and fine-dining experience for the entitled, not for the masses. Probably not,” said Ken McKenzie, vice president for Airbus in North America. ![]() Perlan 2 will be collecting data on the tropopause - the region between the troposphere, the lowest portion of Earth’s atmosphere, and the stratosphere - to help determine at what point waves of moving air masses in that zone become “dangerous type waves,” Warnock said. Even more ambitious is a plan to build a flying car using artificial intelligence.Īs conventional air corridors grow more crowded, Airbus wants to use Perlan 2 as a “platform” to test plans for airplanes that could cruise at altitudes of up to 60,000 feet, well above the current limits of 41,000 feet. In partnership with the Uber transportation company, Airbus wants to develop a helicopter-on-call service. So Airbus, which recently opened a center for technological innovation in California dubbed A3, plans to get as much media exposure as possible from Perlan 2.īut this is not its only futuristic project. “Innovation is not happening just in Silicon Valley,” Enders said, adding that Airbus could be a “leading force” in expanding scientific horizons and that “we are not afraid” to compete. Their technologies can also be used to collect data important for scientific research (as with climate change) or in detecting trends in natural resources like petroleum. In less than 20 years, these late arrivals to the space race have become the center of attention for the aerospace industry, relegating traditional actors to the background. If Perlan 2 manages to break the altitude record set in 1976 by the US Air Force’s SR-71 reconnaissance plane - as it hopes to do later this year in Argentina - Airbus’s name will go into the history books along with those of other great aeronautics pioneers.Īt the same time, Airbus hopes to bask in the glow surrounding the visionary American billionaires Elon Musk (SpaceX) and Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin) as they work to develop reusable launch vehicles. “It can contribute to research, and more importantly it can keep enthusiasm for flights (and be) inspirational for younger generations.”Įxperts say Airbus, founded in 1969 during the golden age of space conquest, figures that by linking itself to Perlan 2’s stratospheric exploits, it can kill two birds with one stone. ![]() “It’s an innovative project this one fits very well to our image, to our reputation as an innovative company,” said Tom Enders, Airbus’s boss, who was co-pilot during Perlan 2’s flight Saturday, which was cut short by cloudy conditions. Why, then, the interest by the huge conglomerate? “We make the airplane as simple as we can make it, so there is nothing we are doing that is cutting-edge for Airbus,” Ed Warnock, chief executive of Perlan 2, told AFP. ![]() If that amount seems paltry compared to the billions traditionally spent on new aeronautics technologies, it is still unexpected coming from a corporation whose work has always centered on passenger planes and helicopters. It represents 57% of the $7 million budget raised to build the glider. That sum makes Airbus the leading partner in Perlan 2, according to a source familiar with the deal. The European aerospace firm has invested close to $4 million in the American group, Mission Perlan 2, which developed the ambitious project, and tested the craft Saturday in the skies over Nevada. The project’s goal is to set an altitude record for the unpowered craft of 90,000 feet in the frigid temperatures at the edge of space (negative-70 Fahrenheit, negative-57 Celsius), similar to the conditions on Mars. The space glider Perlan 2 is helping Airbus take on Silicon Valley’s brightest innovators, even while pursuing technologies that might eventually lead to passenger flights in space. ![]() Reapply after rain.Ĥ) Fertilizer: when properly diluted, peroxide provides that extra oxygen atom to plants at the root making it an excellent fertilizer. How to use peroxide in the garden 1) Faster seed germination: soaking seeds in a solution of 1 tsp of 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1 cup of water for about 30 minutes before planting can help the seed coating to soften and germinate faster. ![]() If you happen to have a different strength of peroxide, then you'll have to adjust for the difference or the solution will be too strong and can cause problems. It'll say on the back of the bottle though, so flip it around just to make sure.ģ% hydrogen peroxide is the strength I use, and I wanted to point this out because that is what I have experimented with and when I mention how I mix the peroxide to use it, it's with the 3% strength. A major stimulus to improving the accuracy and reliability of clocks was the importance of precise time-keeping for navigation. The next development in accuracy occurred after 1656 with the invention of the pendulum clock by Christiaan Huygens. During the 15th and 16th centuries, clockmaking flourished. Spring-driven clocks appeared during the 15th century. ![]() Watches and other timepieces that can be carried on one's person are usually not referred to as clocks. Traditionally, in horology (the study of timekeeping), the term clock was used for a striking clock, while a clock that did not strike the hours audibly was called a timepiece. A major advance occurred with the invention of the verge escapement, which made possible the first mechanical clocks around 1300 in Europe, which kept time with oscillating timekeepers like balance wheels. Water clocks, along with the sundials, are possibly the oldest time-measuring instruments. There is a range of duration timers, a well-known example being the hourglass. Some predecessors to the modern clock may be considered as "clocks" that are based on movement in nature: A sundial shows the time by displaying the position of a shadow on a flat surface. Devices operating on several physical processes have been used over the millennia. The clock is one of the oldest human inventions, meeting the need to measure intervals of time shorter than the natural units such as the day, the lunar month and the year. A clock or a timepiece is a device used to measure and indicate time. ![]() I sear it after braising, and it works either way. Note: Some cooks sear the pork first before braising. Remember, the Ghost's territory is usually relatively small and it stops caring about you once you leave its turf. Most people who lose their ship to a ghost usually do so because they either panicked and got turned around or got pinned down in a way they couldn't leave.ĭon't get me wrong, it's still best to avoid confrontation if you can: when you're in range of a ghost leviathan set your throttle to slow, consider maybe using Silent Running (although you honestly don't have to) and try to calmly stay out of the ghost's aggro range.īUT if you do anger the ghost, don't panic! If you get attacked, kick your throttle back to standard, secure from silent running if you happened to have it on, and then just calmly continue moving forward. The best news: one of the underappreciated aspects of the Cyclops is that it's a fuckin tank. More good news: their territories are relatively small and can be passed through pretty quickly. Once you're off their turf they no longer care about you and will stop pursuing you. Reapers mainly hang out in shallower biomes that are open to the surface - they shouldn't be getting in your way progressing to the Lost River - it sounds like you're really mainly just struggling with the ghosts.Īnd here's some good news about that: Ghost Leviathans are filter-feeders their only motivation for attacking you is their strong territorial instinct. But for some reason I still can't bring myself to push deeper.Īny tips on how to overcome this? I want to experience the late game, explore the river, survive the lava lakes and build that rocket so that I can move on to Below Zero. I've tried maps to avoid spawn sites, reading motivational posts about facing your fears, all that good stuff. Then I don't want to touch the game for weeks. Each time I attempt to go further, a reaper or a ghostie shows up out of nowhere and nearly gives me a heart attack. Over the years I spoiled myself the main events of mid and late game, sort of inadvertently, but also as a way to be less terrified of the steps ahead. It's about time to explore the Lost River and probably create a second base down there. I'm at the stage where my Cyclops is up and running and my Prawn suit almost has all the important updates. However, I've been stuck at the mid-game stage for a long time.literally for years. The early game blew my mind with the exploration, and the sense of scale shifting as you get the means to explore new biomes and go deeper. ![]() ![]() Subnautica is one of my favorite games of all time. |
